About Jon Henry
As a pastor of 15 years, Jon had ample opportunity to speak in public, sometimes four or five times a week. He has served in a diverse range of congregations, Assembly of God, Lutheran, Episcopal, and Anglican from Minnesota, South Dakota to Utah. He learned public speaking skills the hard way – one boring presentation after another – before realizing he needed to try something new to communicate more effectively. He improved his skills drastically and became a trusted and competent communicator. He is a public speaking mentor to several people in his community.
His public speaking experience also includes being a (story teller) member of the Park City StoryTellers Guild, writer for the ‘Tales from the Wasatch Back’ local radio series, facilitator of public speaking workshops, sex education presenter for adolescents, summer camp teacher, community youth mentor, youth worker representative and alliance member, Rotary board member, private school teacher, founder and board member of a Toastmasters Club, and Venue Manager and Event Coordinator for the Sundance Film Festival.
As a business owner (panorama window cleaning and bitethemango graphic design), Jon has constant opportunities to communicate with current and future clients. He understands the importance of strong communication skills - with out them, quality ideas and skills can be overlooked. This winner of several pubic speaking competitions is helping people improve their communication skills.
Toastmasters
Jon started the Park City Toastmasters club in 2000 as a way to meet people and improve communication and leadership skills. Having not known anything about Toastmasters, he was pleasantly suprised just how valuable the club experience came to be. Toastmasters provides a weekly opportunity to practice communication and leadership skills through the use of evaluation.
Jon has discovered that, like all clubs, each Toastmaster club has its own personality that shapes its success. The Park City Club has had a rich history of members that are commmitted to working hard at self-improvement and who business savvy and competent in many arenas.
Since joining Toastmasters, Jon has won several speech contests (the Division Tall Tale and Evaluation and the Club International). Jon serves as a mentor to several of the clubs members. Visit the Park City Toastmasters Club.
Storytelling
Jon joined the Park City StoryTellers Guild not long after starting the Toastmasters Club. Having had a knack for telling stories, the idea of becoming a 'real storyteller' intrigued him. He has performed in story telling concerts and in public school classrooms. Learn more...
